Seer Green Prove Quality Opposition Again

This was our third meeting with Seer Green United this season and the honours stood at a win each.

The opening exchanges promised an exciting game as both teams looked to play good football. Our midfield quartet of Joshua Harrison, Andrew Carr, Elliott Behan and Joshua Cotton battled hard against slick and skilful opposing numbers.

At the back Igor Chrzanowski, Charlie Davis and Nathan Bosworth dealt with early pressure well and covered for each other as well as making sure they won their tackles.

Harry Grantham made his first start for a while up front, dropping back into midfield when required, and gave a typical solid, hardworking performance.

Seer Green took the lead in very fortunate circumstances when a nothing long range shot was caught by the wind which caused the ball to completely change direction as Oliver Foster came out of goal to claim it and somehow find its way into the net. Certainly one of the more bizarre goals we've conceded this season!

The visitors doubled their lead in much less fortunate fashion a few minutes later when their player scored from around 15 yards out with an absolutely magnificent finish no team or goalkeeper at this age level would have stopped.

One of the strengths of our team is its ability to persevere and this is what they did as the deficit was reduced when Charlie Davis scored direct from a free kick which was awarded when a fine stop from the Seer Green keeper saw his momentum take him out of the area and commit an entirely accidental handball.

As the half wore on Kaelin Shaw was introduced into the game to try and shore up the midfield however it was Seer Green who restored their two goal lead as they managed to break away from our midfield and we didn't press well enough which enabled them to score another well taken goal.

All in all a decent first half performance with one opposition goal coming from out of nowhere and the other two being goals from which we can learn moving forward.

A few changes were made at half time with Aqib Zahir coming on in defence and Jacob Oliver and James Gibson coming on in midfield. It was these latter two substitutions that pleased me the most as both players looked spritely on their toes and increased the tempo in the middle of the field ten fold.

We also now had the wind in favour which gave us that little extra advantage Seer Green had in the first half.

We made the score 2-3 when a lovely corner from Andrew Carr was hammered home by Joshua Harrison. Skipper Andrew continued to deliver great corners for the rest of the game as we looked for the equaliser.

The equaliser came eventually when Joshua Harrison broke free and latched onto a long ball, took the ball around the keeper and confidently nestled the ball in the bottom right hand corner of the goal.

Nelson Nkanzei came on to add a bit more pace and unpredictability to our attack whilst Jack Rollins came on in defence and Hugh Pinto came on in midfield. We also reintroduced Elliott Behan back into the game to see if he could unlock the opposition defence as he has done on so many previous occasions.

At this point the game looked like it could go either way as Seer Green remained true to their philosophy of neat, passing football whilst we looked to catch them up on the break but their defence looked very assured when dealing with our balls over the top. After a fair bit of tooing and throing both teams had to settle for the draw.

All in all a pleasing result given the scoreline at half time. We have three more games to play this season the next being a first ever meeting with Chesham United Rangers next Sunday - a game against new opposition is always something to look forward to.
