Green Division Campaign Starts with a Win

The U11s started their post Christmas Green Division campaign against Thame Youth who had also been promoted from the Blue Division in the mid season reshuffle.

Although billed as a competitive game with cup points on offer our main focus for the second half of the season is consolidation in the Green Division rather than a cup final place (although this would be nice!).

Playing in our usual formation the game started, as expected, with both teams creating chances and it was United who took the lead when an intricate passing moving move in the middle of the field allowed Joshua Harrison to race through and bury the ball in the bottom right hand corner of the net.

Thame continued to press however we remained disciplined in defence with the back three of Nathan Bosworth, Igor Chrzanowski and Charlie Davis holding firm and the midfield getting back to help wherever possible.

Our lead was doubled in the latter part of the second half when Elliott Behan volleyed home Joshua Cotton's pass.

A few half time substitutions were made and I am pleased to say this didn't affect the solidity of the team and the second half continued in much the same way as the first with both teams creating chances with United captain Andrew Carr, Kaelin Shaw, Jacob Oliver, Alex Marrannino and Harry Grantham all playing a part in ensuring our midfield held firm.

In the second half however both defences and goalkeepers came out on top as the score line was not added to in the second half - thanks in some part to our goalkeeper Oliver Foster who made a couple of great saves as the game neared its conclusion and substitutes Aqib Zahir and Jack Rollins who came on to add some freshness to a defence that worked hard all game.
