Aylesbury United Juniors U10s (missing 4 players through illness, injury and unavailability) made the trip to the picturesque Chesham Moor to take on Chesham Athletic on a typically autumnal Sunday morning.

The two teams for the day were as follows:-

Team 1 - Toby C, Jacob O, Kaelin S, Harry G, George R, Jack R and Elliott B.

Team 2 - Oliver F, Ben P, Aqib Z, Andrew C, Josh H and Josh C.

Team 1's first game saw the luck go against us for possibly the first time this season as they fell to a narrow defeat in a game which saw them strike the woodwork an unbelievable 5 times! Even the opposition manager commented on our lack of luck after this game! This is to take nothing away from Chesham Athletic though who played some good football when we allowed them to do so. Elliott B found the net for AUJFC in this game.

Team 1's second game was a much better affair from our point of view as the boys brushed off their brief brush with lady (un)luck to secure a victory in which Elliott B, Harry G and Kaelin S (2) got themselves onto the score sheet. As always the victory was a team affair with the ever improving Toby C keeping the hosts at bay in goal, the tenacity of Jacob O and Jack R ensuring the opposition never got time to settle on the ball and George R's skilful approach to the game more than complementing the three goal scorers.

Team 2 found themselves with a comfortable lead at half time of their first match thanks to goals from Josh H (2), Josh C (a header!) and a first goal of the season for Aqib Z. However concentration slipped a little in the first part of the second half as an inspired half time substitution by the Chesham manager saw them peg back two goals before Josh H completed his hat trick to calm our nerves as the game neared its conclusion.

Team 2's second game followed a similar pattern. The boys found them comfortably in the lead as half time approached thanks to goals from Josh H and Josh C only to see their lead halved as the half time whistle approached. Fortunately Lee's half time words seem to resonate as two second half goals from Andrew C (who was experiencing something of a 'goal drought' having not scored for a whole game and a half!) and a further goal from Josh H secured the result to go alongside the performance.

Both games from Team 2 saw confident handling from Oliver F in goal when called upon and equally as confident defending from Ben P who joined the attack on occasions which is something that our coaches will always encourage as long as the boys ensure the position they are vacating is covered by one of their team mates as all good teams have to have a flexible approach to the game.

Manager Lee said of today's games 'yet another pleasing morning's work from the U10s. Even with four strong players missing the squad performed admirably and continued their week on week improvement which has been so evident this season. We now enter a tough period of games between now and Christmas with games against both Downley Dynamos and Risborough Rangers Blue (the two cup finalists from earlier in the season) to come in the next three weeks. I fully expect the boys to rise to the challenge of these fixtures and continue to make me, their parents and the club proud.'
